Plans to construct a second distillery in the Scottish Borders has been unveiled, according to reports.

The proposal would be the second in just one week for the area.

It is understood a local businessman is looking to raise £5m towards the project in the Tweed Valley in order to keep up with the increasing demand for whisky throughout the world, the BBC has said.

The proposal follows plans by Mossburn Distillers last week which hope to build a £40m facility close to Jedforest Hotel, Camptown. It is hoped the development would create 50 full-time jobs, with more than seven million bottles a year being produced at the site. Also included in the multi-million pound investment are visitor facilities, such as a 200-seater restaurant.
