The Scottish Borders Council (SBC) has confirmed work to demolish the former Earlston High School will begin next month.
Hunter Demolition is the firm appointed by the local authority to undertake the programme of works involved.
It is anticipated that the project will take around 12 weeks to complete and will see the removal of the former main school building, the gym halls and the associated annexe block.
Speaking about the decision, SBC's Executive Member for Roads and Infrastructure, Councillor Gordon Edgar, said: "The demolition of the former Earlston High School will mark the end of an era for the many people who were educated at the school and worked there.
"However, it also marks an opportunity to see the site come back into use and play a different role in community life."
