Fishing Heritage Centre To Be Developed

Buckie and District Fishing Heritage Centre is set to benefit from a pot of £400,000 provided by the Scottish Government's European Fisheries Fund (Axis 4) Programme, and Moray Council.

The money will allow the coastal heritage centre to undertake a number of development projects.

The centre, which preserves the area's rich fishing heritage and provides assistance in researching and gathering information on local history. It will receive some £15,000 of EFF funding which is to be matched by Awards For All, a Tesco developer contribution and the centre itself. The project will allow a new external amenity space and disabled access, themed on a traditional quayside, to be constructed. In addition, new low-level information boards, mounted on stone bases, will provide historical information regarding the town's fishing industry and the story of the Fishwives Walk.

The initiative aims to further contribute to the promotion of tourism and help preserve the local fishing heritage.
