The green light has been given by Angus Council to construct a new housing development in Carnoustie.

The local authority's Planning Department agreed to approve plans to build a mix of 16 semi-detached and terraced homes on the site of the former Camus House care home. As part of the programme of works, the care home will now be demolished.

It is understood the development will include a mix of housing types, from one-bed houses for general needs to three-bed houses for disabled ex-service personnel.

The project has been funded in part by a Scottish Government grant, in association with the Council's Affordable Housing Supply Programme delivery plan. The council has also worked with Houses for Heroes Scotland (HFH) to design the five wheelchair adapted houses. Once built, these properties will be managed and maintained by HFH.

Commenting on the announcement, Housing Spokesman for the Council, Councillor Donald Morrison, said: "This project is a clear demonstration of the council and the community's support for our injured service personnel. The design has taken account of neighbour issues.

"In order to ensure neighbours were informed about this, an open event was held where officers were available to answer questions."
