Moray Council has said it is to hold a two-day exhibition next week to update residents on the £86m Elgin flood alleviation scheme.

The consultations will allow the public to see members of the project team and discuss the proposals, which are said to be the biggest of its kind undertaken in Scotland.

Work commenced on the scheme in April 2011. It is due for completion in spring 2015.

Councillor George Alexander, Chair of Moray Council's flood alleviation sub-committee, said key stages in the project – such as a new road bridge in Pansport – remain on target.

He added: "The Elgin flood alleviation scheme is already providing greater security from flooding to a number of homes and businesses in Elgin and we look forward to its completion in 2015 when many more homes and businesses will have their flood risk substantially reduced."

The exhibitions will be held at Elgin Library on Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 January. It will run from 10am on 8pm on both days.
