East Lothian Council has approved new planning guidance on housing land supply.
The new guidelines aim to address the current shortage of housing land in the area and ensure the continued delivery of new homes.
The new proposals outline how planning applications for housing development should be handled when they are for sites not allocated for this purpose, such as greenfield sites on the edge of existing settlements. It also highlights guidance on how existing development plan policy will be implemented in practice, in situations where East Lothian's shortage of housing land is relevant, as well as helping to ensure consistency in the way relevant planning policies are implemented across East Lothian. It will also provide clarity to communities, developers, and landowners on the circumstances in which the council may support such planning applications.
