East Dunbartonshire Council has unveiled an adapted flat to highlight the range of equipment available for people to continue living independently.

According to Scottish Housing News, the flat, which is located in Bishopbriggs, is fully furnished and decorated to look like a home, while also incorporating a number of aids and adaptations.

These aids include panic alarms, to blinds that close at the touch of a button. The property contains systems that could be helpful to older or vulnerable people, those who have suffered a stroke, are living with dementia or have a physical or learning disability.

The show flat will be used by the East Dunbartonshire Council's Social Work team to ensure employees and health and care partner organisations know what is available.

Councillor Manjinder Shergill said: "Some of the technology is simple but effective like gas and flood detectors, while others are more impressive like the chair, floor and bed sensors which alert carers to a lack of movement."
