Fife Park Reopens After Refurb

A football pitch at has been reinstated and a brand new playpark constructed at Burntisland's Toll Park.

As part of Fife Council's 'Building Fife's Future' programme, a new primary school is being built on the park to replace the old school which has run out of space on its present site. Therefore, in order to accommodate the new facility, it was necessary to relocate the playing field and play park. Work was prioritised to ensure these were replaced at the earliest date.

The playing fields have also been fully reinstated in time for the new football season, and the local football team received new strips last week, generously donated by building contractors BAM Construction.

Councillor Bryan Poole, Strategic Spokesperson for Education, Children, Young People and Families, said: "I'm delighted that we have managed to get the playpark and playing fields up and running again so quickly. It was very important to us to try to get these important community facilities back into use as soon as possible and judging by the faces here today they are being very well received.

"Fife Council's Property Services and BAM Construction have worked hard together to get this work done and the progress on the school is just incredible. I'm sure I speak for the whole school community when I say how excited we are to see how the building is progressing. The children of Burntisland have been enjoying an excellent learning and teaching experience in their out-of-date, overcrowded building. How much better it will be for everyone when they have the building to match that high standard."

The new Burntisland Primary School is being built as part of Fife Council's £200m schools' investment programme, Building Fife's Future. Already, Carnegie Primary School, in Dunfermline, Dunfermline High School and Auchmuty High School, in Glenrothes have opened their doors and the purpose built, state-of-the-art schools have been designed and built with 21st century learning and teaching in mind, with a flexibility that allows them to adapt and change to the needs of a modern education system.

Work on Burntisland Primary School, which is already under way, will also benefit from the innovative designs.

The new school is due to open in autumn 2014.
