Outcome Over Creiff School Relocation

The outcome of a statutory consultation by Perth and Kinross Council to propose relocating Crieff Primary School is to be reported today (14 August) to the Lifelong Learning Committee.

The Council has proposed to relocate the school to new and improved facilities within the town.

An extensive consultation regarding the plans took place between 16 November 2012 and 25 January 2013, with more than 600 people and groups getting involved via the proposal papers and two public meetings.

In the meetings, a range of topics were discussed, while written correspondence included facilities and provision at the new school building, road and pedestrian safety, and the process of developing the new school design together with the community.

Councillors are also expected to hear that the User Reference Group for the new Crieff Primary School has already met twice since the consultation to consider these and other issues.

It is hoped the new facility would be delivered through the HubCo development partnership.

This would be one of the first projects within Perth and Kinross to be delivered as part of this partnership.

Work is continuing to develop the design, with construction work anticipated for completion on the new Crieff Primary School in the summer of 2015.

Lifelong Learning Convener, Councillor Bob Band said: "I welcome the wide-ranging support shown through this consultation for the relocation of Crieff Primary School to a new site. Subject to the Committee's approval, we will now be looking to move forward with the project together with the community and our partners in HubCo. Our aim with this proposal is to deliver enhanced provision for learning and teaching that benefits pupils and staff for many years to come."
