The Scottish Borders Council has blocked plans for a wind farm for Brunta Hill near Westruther.
According to the BBC, the developer – PNE Wind UK Ltd – initially submitted plans to construct a 10-turbine farm on the Berwickshire site.
It subsequently decided to scale back its development to eight turbines, as well as lower the height of the structures.
However, Councillors accepted the opinions of officials who said the plan should be rejected because of its "significant and unacceptable" impact.
It is understood there were concerns regarding the landscape character of the surrounding area, as well as an adverse effect on a section of the Southern Upland Way.
The recommendation by officials also suggested that the development would have "an overbearing and dominant impact" on the amenity of nearby homes.
