Glasgow Housing Association (GHA) is set to demolish three tower blocks in Goven.

This is just the latest demolition activity to take place in the city.

According to Urban Realm, the GHA has hired Europe's tallest long-reach excavator to destroy the tower blocks so it can begin work on its ambitious regeneration plans.

The three towers, located at 31, 45 and 59 Iona Court in Govan, were selected to be demolished due to a decline in demand for the properties, as well as ever-increasing investment and maintenance costs.

Tenants living in the dwellings have been transferred to new build properties within the local area, to allow Dem-Master to begin a soft strip of the high rise structures.

The crane is set to be moved over the coming weeks with work scheduled to be completed by December.

David Fletcher, Wheatley Group Director of Regeneration at GHA's parent company, said: "The demolition of the multi-storey blocks at Iona Court marks another important step forward in the ongoing regeneration of the east Govan and Ibrox areas.

"Our new development at Summertown Road is already breathing new life into the wider area and our redevelopment of the tower block at 15 Ibroxholm Oval will also be available for let for mid-market rent from next month."
