Cala Submits Quarry Development Plans

Housebuilder Cala has submitted plans for a development on the site of a former quarry, the BBC has said.

The quarry is near the village of Ratho, in the west of Edinburgh.

It is understood the company wants to build 112 homes as part of its plans to develop the 81-acre site into an ambitious country park.

If approved, it will be Cala's second major investment in the area, having completed its Mooring development recently.

Speaking about the proposals, Cala Homes (East) land director Craig Lynes is quoted as saying: "This is a tremendously exciting proposal which could turn one of the largest brownfield sites in the Edinburgh area into a fantastic local amenity for the local community and wider area.

"We have worked hard to listen to the views of local people, and by and large, we were encouraged by the amount of support for our proposals."

Subject to planning permission, the company hopes to start work on the project by summer 2014 and complete the development and country park in less than five years.
