Comhairle Leader, Angus Campbell, has welcomed the Scottish Government's decision to dedicate additional funds for affordable housing.
The announcement of £0.6m of extra money for affordable housing for the Outer Hebrides comes just a week after the Housing Minister, Margaret Burgess MSP, met with the Leader and other local housing partners to discuss the need for additional affordable housing funding in the Islands.
Mr Campbell said: "I welcome the fact that the Scottish Government has recognised the high costs of developing new housing in rural and island areas and has provided some additional funding to offset these costs.
"The points we made at the meeting with the Minister last week about the need for greater subsidy levels and additional resources for more units have been listened to and are reflected in this new Report. We will now work with HHP to bring about more affordable housing units over the next two years. This is good news for our economy and good news for those in need of new affordable accommodation.
"In making these announcements Nicola Sturgeon has responded very quickly to the findings of this new Report and has accepted its recommendations without delay. This is the sort of decisive approach we need to bring about new and increased investment in affordable housing."
