£100k For Glasgow Museum Refurbs

The Scottish Government has awarded grants to three of Glasgow's museums to help carry out improvement schemes.

In a report by the Evening News, more than £100k was set aside for the projects.

Glasgow Women's Library is set to receive £40k to help fund the creation of space to store and develop its collection in its new premises, which is the former Bridgeton Carnegie Library.

The Hunterian Museum at Glasgow University was awarded almost £38k for the creation of a display area to showcase the latest scientific and medical developments; while Glasgow Life was awarded £28k to buy specialist storage for its collection of Dutch and French pastel drawings, which are part of the Burrell Collection.

A total of 24 Scottish museums and galleries are to share £500k of monies set aside by the Government for improvement works.

Other museum and galleries to receive funds include:

* Inverclyde Council (£5k)

* West Dunbartonshire Council (£14k)

* Scottish Maritime Museum (£8k)

* Rozelle House/Maclaurin Art Gallery (£40k)
