The restoration of a library in Edzell has taken one step closer after receiving a £33,300 grant.

The money is from a fund which supports rural projects in Tayside.

Angus Council is planning to restore the Victorian Inglis Memorial Library back to its original 1898 design.

The money has been distributed by the Rural Tayside leader Local Action Group and the library is currently one of four projects benefiting from £85k work of Leader grants.

Leader is part of the Scottish rural development programme which supports small scale, innovative community-driven projects that encourage local development and benefit the community.

The restoration plans by Angus Council have been supported by the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professional Historic Libraries Group and the Historic Libraries Forum.

Councillor Donald Morrison, the authority's convener of neighbourhood services, said: "I'm delighted that the project to restore the historic library has been recognized by Leader as one worthy of financial support. I will be discussing this offer with colleagues to consider how we can take this forward."

Inglis Library is currently one of four projects benefiting from £85,000 worth of Leader grants.
