15 New Council Homes For West Dunbartonshire

Work has already begun to build 15 new council homes in West Dunbartonshire.

The new housing at Miller Road in Haldane is part of a £1.5m project.

The homes will be ready for rent in early 2014 and will consist of four semi detached houses, five terraced houses and six cottage flats.

The development is part of the first phase of West Dunbartonshire Council's new house building programme, which aims to provide 75 council homes across the area.

It follows a £2.25m from the Scottish government's Innovation and Investment Fund.

All houses will have high standards of energy efficiency, generous space standards and will comply with the recently introduced 2010 Scottish Building Regulations.

The scheme also aims to achieve "Secured by Design" accreditation, which is the official UK Police flagship initiative focussed on 'designing out crime'.

Cllr David McBride, Convenor of Housing, Environmental and Economic Development, said: "I was delighted to cut the first sod and see work starting on these new homes. This is such a prominent vacant site and the new homes will not only provide a fantastic standard of accommodation for tenants, but they will also help to fill an important gap in the wider regeneration of Haldane."

Gordon Lee, Partnering Director of main contractor Cruden said: "Cruden is delighted to be working with West Dunbartonshire Council and their partners to provide these highly sustainable, energy efficient homes. The site at Miller Road will continue the regeneration of Haldane and enhance its reputation as a desirable area to live in."
