Andy MacLellan, Sports Partnership Manager said: "We are confident that the project will continue to progress on time and on budget. Once the building is handed over to the council next spring there will be a range of pre-opening work that has to take place including installing the fixtures and fittings.

"Fife Sport and Leisure Trust, who will operate and manage the facility on behalf of the council will also conduct a range of work including staff training and developing operating procedures. Once that is completed we hope to have a soft opening at the end of April next year and an official opening in early July."

Mr MacLellan added: "The Michael Woods Sports and Leisure Centre will bring a range of benefits to Glenrothes and the wider community.

"The finished Centre will include three pools, dryside facilities, a range of Synthetic Turf pitches and an athletics track."

The construction of the new leisure centre is part of the Future of Leisure programme, which will see the council invest £55m in three new facilities in Dunfermline as well as Kirkcaldy.
