Celtic FC is planning to build a superstore and museum near its home ground, STV has reported.

The plans, just lodged, would require the demolition of the former London Road Primary School building, a B-listed building that closed in 2007.

The Parkhead club's application for planning permission is under consideration of Glasgow City Council.

The new building would incorporate a "superstore, museum, theatre, café, ticket sales, offices and associated facilities".

Under the proposals, Celtic would form a new "Avenue of Heroes" stretching from London Road to the front door of the stadium, which would include "sculptures of famous club figures incorporated into the landscape strategy."

The current superstore and ticket office would be closed and the operations relocated to the new facility.

There are also proposals for two new car parks.

But it is unlikely, the document notes, that the first phase of works including the school’s demolition would be ready in time for the opening ceremony of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, due to be held at Celtic Park.

Planners are hopeful of having further discussions with Games organisers over how the works could be phased in because they have "introduced a moratorium against construction in the vicinity of the stadium for six months prior to the event" coupled with the usage of Parkhead for football games during the next two years.
