Windfarm Construction Starts Near Newton Mearns

ScottishPower Renewables has commenced construction on its latest project, a windfarm near Newton Mearns.

Construction on the site, which is located within East Renfrewshire Council's Area for Renewable Energy, is scheduled to be completed early next year.

Middleton windfarm will consist of six turbines with a maximum height to the blade tip of 105 metres, generating up to 12MW of electricity.

It is expected that it will produce enough renewable energy to meet the average electricity demands of up to 6,800 homes.

ScottishPower Renewables is working with civil engineering specialists Northstone (Farrans division) and turbine manufacturer Gamesa on this development and together they will be making every effort to reduce possible disruption during the construction period.

All project related traffic will be travelling to the windfarm along the B769 and entering the site from an existing and newly created access points.

Turbine deliveries to the site will commence in September 2012, and will be transported to the development by police escort from King George V docks and shall be undertaken, with the aim of reducing possible delays to other road users.

Stuart Mason, Construction Director, ScottishPower Renewables said: "We are delighted get work on Middleton Windfarm underway and our next aim is to build the project safely and complete it on programme. During the construction process, we will be working hard to minimise any disruption to the local community and we'll endeavour to keep informed of any changes that may cause them inconvenience."
