Work has started on a footway and cycle path, to run from Easthaven to the site of the former Dowrie Works in Arbroath.
The new path will extend from the existing Carnoustie to Easthaven cycleway, which was completed in 2009.
Creation of the link between Easthaven and Arbroath will complete a continuous, largely off-road coastal cycle path between Arbroath and the boundary with Dundee City Council.
The new path will run for most of its length alongside the railway line, until it reaches the site of the former Dowrie Works. From here, the route will utilise the existing Dowrie Works access road and the path link and bridge over the Elliot Water to the West Links.
Angus Council contractor Dundee Plant Company Ltd started on site on 16 April and expects the works, which cost £212,777.56 to be completed in 12 weeks.
