Glasgow City Council has approved the Tesco and Glasgow Harbour proposals to regenerate two prominent West End sites, create over 500 local job opportunities and provide more value and choice for local residents.

The plans will create modern housing and office space at Beith Street, Partick, and simultaneously develop a new supermarket at Glasgow Harbour – completing the development of Glasgow Harbour and keep people shopping in the West of the city.

Gloria Coats, Corporate Affairs Manager for Tesco, commented: "It is greatly encouraging that members have backed our proposals for Glasgow Harbour and recognised that our plans are the best fit for the West End.

"The positive outcome today demonstrates that members have recognised the merits of our proposals and the benefits they will bring to the local community and contribute to the local economy, including our plans for a Regeneration Partnership to help the long term unemployed back into the workplace."

Glasgow Harbour managing director Euan Jamieson said: "This is a welcome decision and a major step forward for Glasgow Harbour, representing major economic development, and boosting employment for the local area. The supermarket will significantly strengthen our offering to the west of the project site, and the ability to develop a range of housing on the Beith Street site will strengthen links with the greater West End – which has always been one of our key strategic aims."
