Around 60,000 homes are without power after the worst storm to hit Scotland in a decade.

Utility companies are working hard to restore power as quickly as possible and vulnerable customers have been contacted to ensure appropriate measures are in place.

Most schools have re-opened, however parents have been advised to listen to updates on local radio which will alert them to any further closures either in the central belt or in the areas of the country still experiencing severe weather.

In total there have been 95 incidents on the road networks, mostly due to fallen trees and 85 per cent of these have already been dealt with. Work is continuing to get all roads re-opened as quickly as possible.

Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: "While the worst of the weather has subsided across the central belt, other areas of the country are still experiencing severe conditions.

"Contractors are working hard to resolve remaining issues on our roads and with power supplies.

"I would urge all members of the public to continue to take care and heed advice from police and travel authorities."
