Denny Town Centre Regeneration Progresses

Falkirk Council has recently issued a newsletter to all Denny residents and just completed the first of three stages of consultation which will be reported back to the 7th December meeting of Falkirk Council.

Thereafter the second consultation stage will be presented to the Denny community in January 2012 including the outline planning application for the overall town centre regeneration masterplan and detailed planning application drawings for the first phase of the £6.5m investment to the town centre including demolition of the remaining Church Walk blocks, new car parking, library, shops, town square and infrastructure being delivered by Falkirk Council.

These plans will be submitted for planning permission by Falkirk Council in March 2012.

The Council’s overall demolition period for the first two Church Walk blocks remains unchanged, however frustratingly the discovery of unrecorded gas and electricity metering equipment and supplies within the first block held up the initial phase of the demolition works, as it had previously been understood that all meters had been removed.

These additional meter and supplies were not recorded on the utility company’s records.

Neither the Council nor its contractor are allowed to remove the meter or the supply to it, and as such were therefore required to wait for the meter removal and service termination to be undertaken by the utility company. This has now been completed and the demolition contractor is preparing to recommence the demolition works.

This will require the road closure to be in place during December, with dates to be confirmed depending upon the contractor’s progress over the course of the next few weeks. The second Church Walk block will be demolished at the beginning of February as programmed.
