Stranraer Plans 'Houses For Hospital'

Fresh plans have been lodged for a housing development on the site of a former hospital in the costal port of Stranraer in southwest Scotland.

It would see a mix of flats, semi-detached and terraced properties built on the land once occupied by the Garrick Hospital after NHS Dumfries and Galloway has drawn up the plans to demolish the building that shut in 2006.

Previous proposals had been put forward to convert the site into a 50-bed nursing home after the Garrick site was closed when the £12.5m Galloway Community Hospital opened its doors in the town.

Proposals had been submitted to demolish the old Garrick Hospital in Stranraer and build a nursing home.

The Garrick site was replaced by a new hospital in 2006, the same year the Scottish Borders building was closed during a shake-up of health services.
