Angus Council's Education Committee has announced updates on the work being carried out in the county to ensure school buildings were fully renovated and modernised for the 21st century.

Since 2004, the council has invested more than £43m on major improvements to its school estate including an extension and external improvements to Webster's High School, an extension and creation of a community facility at Monifieth High School, and a new school in the Angus glens.

In addition, investment continues across the school estate to improve facilities such as heating, lighting and accommodation.

Future planned projects include investment in the primary school estate in Arbroath and at Brechin High School.

Education Convener, Peter Nield, commented: "It is vital that we continue to identify ways to adapt and improve the school estate, to take account of the ambitions and requirements of the new Curriculum for Excellence.

"Although we have a strong track record on improving our school estate, it is essential that investment in the school estate be maintained. The council will continue to be proactive in taking advantage of available funding and ensuring that the school estate is sustainable in the medium to longer term."
