A brand new one-stop-shop for neighbourhood and library services in Craigmillar moved one step closer as Graham Construction were confirmed as contractor on the £7.5M scheme.
The new East Neighbourhood Office and Craigmillar Library which will take 59 weeks to complete will be situated at the heart of the new Craigmillar Town Centre, serving the local neighbourhood in purpose-built accommodation that will replace a number of old premises that are no longer fit for purpose.
As well as bringing staff together from several council departments and partner agencies, the building will provide a new community space, with a large modern library delivering a range of activities for all ages.
Supporting the ongoing regeneration of Craigmillar town centre the East Neighbourhood Office and Craigmillar Library is the second project to be developed as part of the Hub South East Scotland programme with projects worth approximately £300 million expected over the next ten years, covering Edinburgh, Lothians and the Borders.
A sod-cutting ceremony marked the start of this project on Thursday 11 August which saw developers, council leaders and local children brave the rain to make their first dent on the land which is to be built on.
