Plans for a near £2 million regional gymnastics centre in Dundee could be set to take a great leap forward.
The recess sub committee on Monday is being asked to approve a tender for the alteration and extension of the current sports centre in Old Glamis Road into the Dick McTaggart Gymnastics Centre.
Councillors are being recommended to accept a tender amount of £1,723,249 from Hadden Construction Ltd, and when other allowances are included gives a total cost of £1,980,995.
In March, it was announced that a sports lottery grant of £1.2million was being awarded for the city council's project.
The new centre will see complete transformation of the current centre. Specialist gymnastics equipment would be permanently erected at a standard to allow training for national and regional gymnasts and trampolinists. The centre would be used by a range of participants from grass roots classes to regional squads.
Changing facilities would be replaced and a dance studio also provided.
City council administration leader Cllr Ken Guild said: "This is a major development in the plans to provide a superb facility that will directly benefit people in the city and act as a regional centre for people from further afield.
"We were delighted to receive the sports lottery grant and the council is now taking the concept forward to invest in facilities that will be used by top class gymnasts.
"It will also help encourage children and other groups to continue participation in this popular sport in the city."
