The Crown Estate has welcomed the Scottish Government’s consultation on how communities around Scotland might drive long term benefits from the investment in offshore renewable energy projects.

They have also acknowledged the positive comments on the close working relationship between the Scottish Government and The Crown Estate.

Scotland is well placed to continue supporting the offshore renewables industry. In February 2010 the UK was recognised as the most attractive country for offshore wind investment in Ernst & Young’s Renewable Energy Country Attractiveness Index.

The Crown Estate has participated in discussions with the industry, with the Scottish Government and with local government to ensure that Scotland sees real benefits in the form of high quality jobs, training and business development opportunities. The Crown Estate will continue these discussions and has submitted its ideas as part of the consultation.

The Crown Estate, Scottish Enterprise, Highlands & Islands Enterprise and Scottish Renewables will be running a supply chain event in Aberdeen on 2 February 2011 as part of this continuing effort. This follows up a series of 12 supply chain events held last year in Inverness, Aberdeen, Glasgow and elsewhere in the UK.

Matters concerning the allocation of Crown Estate surplus revenue (profit) is a matter for HM Treasury, not for The Crown Estate to comment on.
