The Scottish Government has cited an Angus primary school as an excellent example of energy efficiency in the public sector.

The new Seaview Primary School building in Monifieth is featured in the Scottish Government’s recently published ‘Conserve and Save – The Energy Efficiency Action Plan' for Scotland’ as an example of good practice.

Angus Council has already won a national Carbon Trust Award for its energy efficient design and construction of the school.

Speaking at the council’s Corporate Services Committee (Thursday 21 October) vice-convener councillor John Whyte said: “The government expects the public sector in Scotland to lead the way through exemplary energy performance and in the construction of Seaview Primary School Angus Council has shown what can be achieved.

“We are committed to incorporating greenhouse gas reduction measures into all of our new buildings to help us minimise energy use and keep costs down.”

Councillor Whyte congratulated the project team saying: “Our in-house team from property services and education deserve this national recognition. They have succeeded in creating not only an excellent learning environment that is greatly valued in Monifieth but also a low carbon building that uses energy efficiently and generates its heat from renewable resources.”
