Taste Of The Future For Kilwinning Main Street

A taste of a bright future for Kilwinning’s Main Street is to be served up later this month.

Ayrshire farmers and producers are bringing their multi-award winning produce to the Main Street when the Ayrshire Farmers’ Market comes to the town for the first time.

This follows the completion of the £2.75 million refurbishment of the streetscape at Main Street by Irvine Bay Regeneration Company. The work is due to be officially opened by Scotland’s Housing and Communities Minister Alex Neil MSP on October 21st.

Around 15 local food producers will be at the very first of quarterly Kilwinning farmers’ markets on October 23rd.

As well as the delights for the taste buds, there will also be easy-on-the-ears music from local musicians, face-painting and a children’s play area as well as other activities.

Howard Wilkinson, the market organiser, said: “We are all looking forward very much to coming to such an exciting newly enhanced open public space and hope the event by attracting visitors and residents alike will prove a success for both the existing shopkeepers in the town and the community at large."

Patrick Wiggins, Chief Executive of Irvine Bay Regeneration Company, said: “Attracting the farmers’ market is another clear sign of what the regeneration of Main Street’s streetscape was all about – creating a much more attractive environment for events, local people and businesses.

“The market will help attract footfall, and in itself that will benefit the other local traders in Main Street.”
