Midlothian Council has committed to spend £105 million through the Housing Revenue (HRA) Capital Plan on building up to 1000 new council homes.

The new build programme is well underway and scheduled for completion in financial year 2011/12.

Midlothian Council, through the Scottish government’s Affordable Housing Investment Programme, last week successfully secured funding of £1.41 million for local affordable housing. This will contribute towards 47 new houses at the Park Avenue / Park Road site in Gorebridge. Additional funding of £0.35 million was announced this week and the Council will meet with the Scottish government to discuss how this funding is to be used. Recent funding announcements take total Scottish government funding for local affordable housing to £5.6 million.

Derek Milligan, Midlothian Council Leader said: “Midlothian Council is dedicated to building affordable homes for local families and has committed £105 million to this. Our success in securing further government funding is another small step to support the Council in delivering up to 1000 new homes for rent.”
