The completion of a major phase of the construction of Dundee City Council's new headquarters was marked on Friday June 18 with a "topping out" ceremony.

Dundee House is being constructed for the council on the North Lindsay Street site by main contractor Bovis Lend Lease.

Taking part in the ceremony on the rooftop overlooking the city centre were Lord Provost John Letford, administration leader Councillor Ken Guild, chief executive David Dorward and Gordon Anderson, Regional Director, Scotland, Bovis Lend Lease.

The new roof for Dundee House is being installed by BriggsAmasco using a special waterproofing system developed by the company, which was established in Arbroath by William Briggs in 1865.

The £34 million project, on the site of a former warehouse, is scheduled for completion early next year.

Councillor Guild said: "Good progress is being made on the new Dundee House. The offices will include a new flagship customer centre that will underline the city council's commitment to modernising contact with the public and to ensure that their dealings with the council are as easy and simple as possible."

Following completion of the new council headquarters, Tayside House will be demolished as part of the Central Waterfront development.
