Quarry Brae Primary School and Parkhead Community Nursery, a £7 million Glasgow primary school and nursery has been officially opened this week.
The new school campus, funded by Glasgow City Council, opened for lessons in October 2009.
Designed in house by the council’s Development & Regenerations Services department, the campus was built by City Building.
Bailie Jean McFadden, Executive Member for Education for the council, joined parents, officials and members of the local community.
Bailie McFadden said: "A school opening is always an exuberant and happy occasion for everyone involved. I am delighted to take part in the celebrations for the new Quarry Brae Primary and Parkhead Community Nursery.
“I am sure that everyone in the local community is very proud of the new facilities, classrooms and specialist rooms which will enhance the provision of education for the children here today and in the future."
The capacity of Quarry Brae Primary School is 363 and the current school roll is 239. The school has 11 classrooms, two general purposes rooms, a media and library suite and a nurture class. The gym hall, assembly/dining hall and all weather pitch are shared by both the primary and nursery.
Over the last 10 years, Glasgow City Council has spent £550m to improve the condition and quality of its school buildings and this modernisation strategy continues in the city. The council has built a total of 100 school establishments in new buildings.
