Finishing touches to the £2m improvement programme to Lochee High Street are due to be completed next week.

The facelift, which was started in October last year, has seen upgrading work to pavements and roads as well as the provision of trees, street furniture, litter bins, benches, cycle racks and improved white lighting.

A series of large speed bumps previously a feature of the street have been removed and replaced with improved traffic calming measures and, in places, a more attractive road surface.

This has been created using concrete blocks fixed in place with a new modified mortar jointing system which takes six days to become sufficiently hard to stand up to the wear and tear created by constant traffic movement.

The modified mortar provides a stronger material that increases the lifetime of the road surface by stopping movement in the blocks, avoiding the need for repair work in the near future.

Drivers, traders and shoppers can expect Lochee High Street to reopen completely on Wednesday (June 9).

Funded by the Scottish Government's Town Centre Regeneration Fund and Dundee City Council the regeneration programme was carried out to help breathe new life into the area.

Substantial grant funding is being made available to local retailers for enhancements to shop frontages and further plans are in place to improve the overall security of the area.

Traders and community groups have been consulted and informed during the work and are discussing setting up a body to drive forward further improvements to the area.
