Lucie Smith from Hurlford Primary was the proud winner of Leisure Development's EA Positive Play 'Big Play Experiment' competition which was held during national School Grounds Week.

Forty four primary schools were involved in the ‘Big Play Experiment’ and took part in activities which promoted greater use of their school grounds. Each school was also given the chance to enter a playground games design competition.

Lucie’s design entitled 'Space Catchers' was chosen from hundreds of entries. She had demonstrated her school’s positive approach to Curriculum for Excellence and their Eco-schools ethos by designing a colourful, fun and exciting playground.

Councillor Kathy Morrice, Spokesperson for Community Wellbeing said: "Lucie's design was just brilliant. It encapsulated the ideas behind the 'Big Play Experiment' and will really encourage young people to play outside. As part of Lucie's prize the design will be painted on the playground very soon."

Head teacher of Hurlford Primary, Gillian Keenan added: "I am delighted that Lucie's design is being painted on the playground, it will really liven up our outdoor play space."
