A new supermarket in St. Ninians may get the go ahead but only if concerns over the size of the development and road traffic issues can be addressed.

Stirling Council Planning Panel agreed in principle with the application by Allan Water Developments to build a supermarket on the site of the former MFI furniture store and Parkhead Building Supplies at Maitland Crescent but felt that what was being proposed was an over development of the site, with insufficient parking and road junction capacity issues at Maitland Crescent with Glasgow Road (A872).

Planning Panel Chair Councillor Alasdair MacPherson said: "This derelict brownfield site is an eyesore in the Borestone and St. Ninians area and this development is welcome. However, there are fundamental concerns over what is an over development of the site and with the high volumes of traffic using the Glasgow Road access to and from the supermarket will need to be addressed."

A further application, which will detail the actual size and appearance of the store, will have to address the issues of over development and satisfy road concerns highlighted in this application.
