Fife Council's Private Landlord Registration Team registered more than 7,000 landlords in 2008-09, according to the Fife Housing Partnership.
Housing and Communities Committee and Fife Housing Partnership Chair, Cllr. Brian Goodall, expressed his delight at the Team's performance: "After a slow start Fife has rapidly developed its approach to Private Landlord Registration and managed to exceed the Scottish Average of 90% in 2008-09.
"Improving access to housing is one of the Council’s top priorities. Private landlords have an important role to play in this and we are committed to working with them to ensure the highest possible standards of accommodation for their tenants."
Senior Housing Manager Alan Russell added: "We continue to receive new applications on a regular basis.
"Private landlords are required by law to register with the local council and landlords should contact Fife's Private Landlord Registration Team on 01592 583397 if they have not already done so."
Fife Council received 8000 applications (relating to over 11,000 properties) in 2008-09 and successfully processed 7200 (91%) before the year end. A number of the applications not completed required further investigation. The Council's performance for 2009-10 to date is 97.5%.
The Fife Housing Partnership membership includes representatives from Fife Council, NHS Fife, Scottish Government, Housing Association Forum, the Private Landlords Steering Group, and the Tenants and Residents Federations.
