Adult apprentice Garry Devoy (37) from Paisley is the winner of Glasgow Metropolitan College's Apprentice of the Year, a competition for apprentice plasterers, for the second year in a row.
Garry, who is employed by local construction, refurbishment and maintenance company, Clark Contracts, was presented with a gold medal at a college ceremony to mark his achievement.
Commenting on Garry's dedication to training, Gordon Cunningham, managing director at Clark Contracts said: "We encourage staff at all levels to take up training and development courses and Garry is a role model for anyone thinking about a trade apprenticeship. We are very proud of him and delighted that he has been recognised again in this way."
After working in the retail business, Garry started as a labourer with Clark Contracts, before joining the company’s apprenticeship programme. He completes his apprenticeship in early September this year.
Clark Contracts has supported and trained over 100 apprentices since local entrepreneur Steve Clark set up the business in 1978. The firm currently has 14 people on the Modern Apprenticeship scheme.
Founded in 1978, Clark Contracts has grown to employ over 200 staff at offices in Paisley, covering the West of Scotland, and Edinburgh, covering the East. Around 80% of the company’s work is repeat business and six out of ten is from customers who have worked with Clark Contracts for five years or more.
