A £3.4m building project to renovate Aberdeen Crematorium begins in August.
The works include the extension of the building, installation of new cremators and the decommissioning of the old cremators.
The project is split into three phases.
Phase 1, scheduled from 10 August 2009 to 16 May 2010, consists of the construction of an extension plus the installation and commissioning of new cremators.
Phase 2, planned for 17 May 2010 to 25 July 2010, will see the decommissioning of old cremators and the refurbishment of old cremator space.
The final phase, taking place from 26 July 2010 to 5 September 2010,
will entail the refurbishment of the chapel of rest.
To ensure that there will be no disruption to service during the project work will be carried out between the hours of 4pm and 8am Monday to Friday and 8am to 5pm on Saturdays.
Council Leader John Stewart said: "I am very pleased to see that work is to begin on these vital improvements and replacements.
"The project has been organised in such a way as to ensure that there will be the minimum of disruption to the running of the crematorium.
"This has been a long time coming and I am glad that Aberdeen will soon have these improved facilities."
