A scheme to guarantee training and job opportunities was formally launched on Wednesday 17th June 2009.
The Inverclyde Construction Plus Partnership will secure employment and training for the community within a range of large scale construction projects.
Inverclyde Council's Schools Programme has a requirement for the developers E4i to provide 15 apprenticeships, 33 general building posts plus a variety of training and work experience places over the next four years.
Local construction company Xircon, who are currently building the Riverside Business Centre have already recruited six local groundsmen, a heating engineer and a quantity surveyor. River Clyde Homes and regeneration company, Riverside Inverclyde, will include community benefit clauses when tendering.
Aubrey Fawcett, Corporate Director, Regeneration and Resources said: "This is an important day for Inverclyde. Construction Plus will offer a firm framework of opportunity across a range of skills. It is vital that individuals within our local labour force are given opportunities to capitalise on the construction work that is happening across Inverclyde."
To ensure an effective supply of suitable labour, Inverclyde Community Development Trust has been appointed as a single point of contact with the support of Fairer Scotland Funds and Inverclyde Council.
As a result of the economic downturn, a number of apprentices have been laid off by their employer. Inverclyde Council in conjunction with other partners has put together a package to ensure these trainees are recruited and able to complete their apprenticeship.
The Construction Plus key partners and providers include: Inverclyde Council, Skills Development Scotland, Riverside Inverclyde, Riverclyde Homes, The Trust, Jobcentre Plus, James Watt College, Action for Children, Construction Skills, Careers Scotland.
