Insulation Industry Re-Instates Chair For Scotland

Dr Howard Marshall, Managing Director of Best Energy, has been re-elected as Chair of the National Insulation Association's (NIA) Scotland Forum.

The NIA is a non-profit making professional body representing over 90% of the UK's insulation industry and Howard will continue to be involved in promoting the professionalism of its members in Scotland.

Howard, who has been involved in insulation for 21 years and the Chair of the NIA's Scotland Forum since August 2007, believes that there has never been a more important time for the voice of the NIA to be heard.

He said: "I am delighted to accept this important role at a time when we are gaining real momentum in our efforts to influence and deliver the energy efficiency agenda in Scotland. The insulation industry is coming under intense pressure from the

UK Government and the devolved administrations to deliver the national targets for energy efficiency, carbon savings and the eradication of fuel poverty.

"The NIA, as a strategic partner with these governments, the energy suppliers and the greater part of the insulation industry, is uniquely placed to respond to the challenges that we face in Scotland with the new Energy Assistance Package, the Home Insulation Scheme and the continuing Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT) in the most customer-oriented and professional manner."

Dr Marshall believes his experience in the business will help him to know when to challenge, when to support and when to lead the NIA's work as they develop the collaborative and responsive approach to energy efficiency delivery.

A large number of homes in Scotland have inadequate insulation and the NIA reports that the on average they could save around £365 a year on their fuel bills by simply installing cavity wall and loft insulation. For those with solid walls, insulating the loft and walls will save even greater sums of around £675 - £705 per year.

Also, as part of the Governments Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT) there are various grants available to householders to subsidise the cost of this.

NIA installer members offer a free survey and can advise householders of the most appropriate type of insulation for their property. They can also give you information about grants or subsidies that you may be entitled to and how to apply for these.
