Graham has been awarded a £3.5M contract to replace an existing Bailey Bridge over the River Irvine in Scotland.
The existing bridge erected in 1971 is a 3-span Bailey Bridge that is supported on the original substructure of a railway bridge, which carried the Irvine to Kilmarnock line.
The existing structure carries the A71, a two lane single carriageway road over the River Irvine in Irvine, North Ayrshire.
The proposed structure is a single span bridge comprising two inwardly inclined tubular steel arches braced together near the crown supporting a steel concrete composite ladder deck via steel hangers.
The arch foundations will be reinforced concrete pile caps supported on large diameter bored piles. The pile caps at each support will be tied laterally with a post-tensioned ground beam. The deck foundation will consist of reinforced concrete bankseats supported on bored piled foundations.
Work is due to commence in May 2009 with a construction period of 48 weeks.
