A total of 1,600 lorry journeys a year are to be taken off the A82, A887 and the A830 following a funding announcement to cut congestion and emissions.
£0.3m of Freight Facility Grant funding has been allocated to John Scott Transport (JST) for the provision of a floating pier and crane to take timber freight off our roads and onto sea.
JST will receive £292,083 to transfer 20,000 tonnes of timber a year by sea from Eilanreach on the North West coast to Corpach and Troon.
Stewart Stevenson, Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Climate Change said: "This Government is absolutely committed to getting more freight off our roads and onto rail and sea. By taking more lorries off our roads this funding will help ease congestion and reduce damage to the environment.
"I would like to see more Scottish businesses think about their freight priorities. If they do, we will see great environmental benefits and remove even more traffic from our congested roads."
The Freight Facilities Grant (FFG) of £292,083 to John Scott Transport will contribute to the capital costs of a floating pier and crane to enable the company to transport timber from Eilanreach (south of Glenelg) by sea, to Corpach, Troon and export, that would otherwise have to be transported by road to Dalcross, Corpach.
