The regeneration of Cumnock Town Centre has received a significant boost thanks to the announcement by Historic Scotland of an £888,050 grant award to East Ayrshire Council for a Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS) in the Cumnock Conservation Area.
The grant will enable the Council to work in partnership with owners of buildings in the area to undertake much needed repairs.
The aim is to help restore the historic core of the conservation area, working directly with property owners. The total value of the project will be in the region of £2.6m.
Councillor Douglas Reid, Leader of the Council said: "I am absolutely delighted that Historic Scotland has approved funding for this very important project - a heritage project that will see the historic core of Cumnock conserved for future generations. "This is another indication that the wider Cumnock Town Centre Regeneration Project is succeeding, following the receipt of the planning application for the new office development. The Council is fully committed to the regeneration of Cumnock and I anticipate further success in the future."
Spokesperson for the Environment & Regeneration Councillor Jim Buchanan, added: "This is great news for Cumnock and for East Ayrshire. Securing the funding from Historic Scotland is an indication of the value of Cumnock in heritage terms.
"We will work with property owners through the CARS project to improve the built environment in the town centre. This is another success story for Cumnock and I would like to thank the officers involved in the application process for their hard work and dedication."
