Carillion IT Services today announced it has been appointed by Motherwell College to install an integrated data, voice and video infrastructure as well as a wireless network.
The £70m redevelopment programme will involve the relocation of the current campus in Motherwell to the brand new purpose built Ravenscraig campus less than a mile away.
The contract, which will run for five years initially, will see Carillion deliver the design, implementation and maintenance of an end to end Cisco unified communications infrastructure, which will form the backbone of the Ravenscraig campus; converging data, voice and video onto one single network.
Once implemented, the new wireless network will provide the college's students and staff with a reliable, flexible and secure communications platform in addition to an exciting and modern learning environment.
Motherwell College offers a wide range of further education courses for over 20,000 students.
As Motherwell College vacates its old building it leaves behind disparate voice, data, CCTV and video networks, which were installed and managed separately. As part of their green agenda, Carillion and Cisco have, as part of the project, agreed to buy the legacy infrastructure equipment from the college and will recycle or dispose of it in an environmentally friendly manner and in line with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE Directive).
Hugh Logan, Principal and CEO of Motherwell College, said: "With the new Ravenscraig campus set to provide the local community with a modern and functional environment to inspire learning in the 21st century, we believe the unified communications solution proposed by Carillion IT Services will not only vastly reduce the college’s ongoing maintenance costs, but also support us in delivering the best quality of education in Lanarkshire."
