Aberdeenshire Council Shortlisted For National Transport Awards

Aberdeenshire Council has been shortlisted in four categories at the 2008 Scottish Transport Awards.

Now in their sixth year, the prestigious awards bring together the transport community to recognise and celebrate industry achievements across Scotland.

The event is a good opportunity for transport professionals and providers to showcase challenging and innovative project work taking place across Scotland and at the same time network with colleagues and clients.

Supported by the Scottish Government, the awards are about recognising and rewarding real improvements to local transport and bringing the nation's transport community closer together.

The council's Transportation and Infrastructure Service submitted four projects for consideration at the 2008 Scottish Transport Awards, which have all made their respective shortlists.

The submissions covered four categories:
  • The Scottish Transport Local Authority of the Year
  • Advanced Road Safety, Traffic Management and Enforcement Award
  • Best Practice in Travel to School and Work Scheme
  • Excellence in Marketing and Travel Planning
Chairman of Aberdeenshire Council's Infrastructure Services Committee, Peter Argyle, said: "I am delighted that each of the submissions has made it to their respective short list - that is a great achievement in its own right, as they have had to compete against applications from across Scotland.

"This reflects the hard work and commitment of the staff within Transportation and Infrastructure, and recognises the quality of service they provide.

"I'm sure we'll all have our fingers crossed for further success on the night of the awards ceremony."

Winners will be announced at the Scottish Transport Awards 2008 in Glasgow's Crowne Plaza Hotel on November 19, hosted by radio and television presenter Grant Stott.
