Mansell Entertainment Evening Raises More Than £15k For Charity

A fundraising entertainment evening packed with music and fun, held by the Aberdeen office of leading construction company, Mansell, raised more than £15,000 for good causes.

All proceeds from the event – which was held on Friday as part of a year-long fundraising campaign by the company – are to be donated to North-east cancer charities, Friends of ANCHOR (Aberdeen and North Centre for Haematology, Oncology and Radiotherapy) and CLAN (Cancer Link Aberdeen & North), as well as construction industry charity, The Lighthouse Club Charity.

Dave Edwards compered the event and the evening's 'headline act', musician and comedian Frank Robb, entertaining attendees with a mix of hugely enjoyable songs and razor sharp wit.

The evening – which around 150 people attended – was the latest event in the company’s campaign to raise £1m for a number of good causes throughout the UK this year.

To mark the company reaching the incredible milestone of a century in business in 2008, each of its regional offices has adopted a local charity to raise money for.

Its Aberdeen office is using 2008 to raise cash for Friends of ANCHOR, which was set up to support the ANCHOR unit at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and to fund vital cancer research projects at the University of Aberdeen’s Institute of Medical Science.

The firm’s Granite City team is also raising funds for construction industry charity, The Lighthouse Club Charity – which is dedicated to giving aid and assistance to construction workers and their families who suffer accidents or ill health – throughout the year.

Meanwhile, Hall & Tawse Joinery – which is part of Mansell and also based in Aberdeen – is using the year to raise cash for North-east cancer support charity CLAN (Cancer Link Aberdeen & North).

Doug Duncan, Mansell’s business development manager, said: "We are delighted to have raised more money for Friends of ANCHOR, CLAN and The Lighthouse Club Charity and hope this donation will assist both in continuing with the exceptional work they carry out.

"Everyone who attended the event enjoyed a fantastic and thoroughly entertaining evening and to have done so whilst raising cash for such worthwhile causes is terrific.”

The Aberdeen office’s efforts is part of a UK-wide centenary year fundraising campaign by Mansell which will see employees undertake a host of weird and wonderful activities, including a cycle around the UK which will take in every Mansell office and culminate in October with a special charity reception at the British Museum in London.

Mansell is a UK-wide company incorporating Mansell Construction Services Ltd, Kirby MacLean Ltd and Hall & Tawse Joinery. Operating in a range of market sectors, including social housing, interior solutions, airports, defence, telecommunications, education, heritage and health, Mansell is part of the Balfour Beatty Group.
