Wimbledon mixed doubles winner and US Open mixed doubles finalist, Jamie Murray, returned home to Dunblane today to officially open the new Dunblane High School.
Jamie, a former pupil of Dunblane High, was only too happy to return to Dunblane to help celebrate the opening of the new school.
Jamie and his brother Andy are held in high regard within the local community and seen as role models to pupils at the school, demonstrating that through hard work and a focused approach to their goals - then anything is possible.
Jamie said: "I am delighted and honoured to be back at Dunblane High today to open the new school, which holds very precious memories for me and for Andy. I hope the pupils of today enjoy their time at Dunblane High as much as I did."
Head Teacher Dot White said: "Pupils nominated Jamie to open the school and everyone at Dunblane High School is really pleased that he took time out of his very busy schedule to open our school."
The school was constructed by Stirling Gateway Ltd on behalf of Stirling Council and was the first to be completed as part of the council’s current £100m schools rebuilding and refurbishment programme.
Staff and pupils were involved in the design of the building from the outset. At the heart of the new school is a glass-fronted atrium where pupils, staff and visitors can meet and socialise.
The classrooms are well equipped and have the latest in information and communications technology. As well as providing all the traditional teaching areas for the 780 pupils and 100 staff the school also has an external art deck, a rooftop science teaching space, a fitness studio, a dance studio and glass walls wherever possible to allow natural light. The wider Dunblane community has also benefited from the opening of the school, as it has become part of the community with a range of sport, leisure and learning facilities.
