Cupar Station Car Park Extension Completed

The £722,000 revamp of Cupar Station car park, Fife, has been completed, with an additional 89 spaces now installed to meet demand and encourage even more people to take the train.

This takes the total number of spaces to 116 and includes seven blue badge holder spaces. The expanded facility officially opened on Monday 18 August. As part of the expansion, additional CCTV has been installed and lighting improved to improve safety and security, while a bus turning circle and interchange shelter at the station will help link public transport opportunities.

The recent installations of a ticket vending machine and a customer information screen aim to help cut queues and keep passengers informed. Step-free access into the ticket office has also been provided as part of the programme.

Transport Scotland has invested around £1.7m in railway car park expansions in the east of Scotland this year at Cupar, Musselburgh, Prestonpans and Stonehaven.

These projects, funded through the Small Rail Projects fund, come in the wake of similar car park extensions completed by First ScotRail at Perth, Glengarnock, Wemyss Bay and Dumfries over the past year, which have delivered over 240 more spaces for Park and Ride passengers.

David Doris, Project Manager at Transport Scotland said: "The car park expansion and other recent improvements at Cupar Station will deliver real benefits for passengers.

"Not only will the additional spaces give more users the option of swapping the car for rail, the improved interchange with buses will helps deliver an integrated transport solution for the town.

"There has been a significant package of improvements at Cupar Station recently and we welcome the contribution of Fife Council in helping us join up bus and rail services."

Peter Williams, Commercial Director at First ScotRail said: "This expansion is good news for customers and supports our ongoing drive to encourage more people to travel by rail.

"It marks an important step in the delivery of greater integrated transport opportunities, which we will continue to build on in partnership with Transport Scotland."
