River Clyde Homes has welcomed news that it is to receive over £11m in grant funding to help improve housing in Inverclyde this year.
The Scottish Government has announced it expects £493m to be spent across the country as part of the Housing Association Grant programme, with Inverclyde set to receive more than £19m.
River Clyde Homes will spend £11m delivering a number of key projects including the improvement of homes in Greenock and Gourock town centres and Mid Auchinleck in Port Glasgow. This includes the installation of new kitchens and bathrooms, new front doors and roof works.
Regeneration projects will also benefit, with money being used to design new build homes in Woodhall, Oronsay and Moray Road in Port Glasgow and Gilmour Street in Greenock's East End. The design proposals are being developed in consultation with local residents to ensure long-term sustainability.
In addition the grant funding will also be used to demolish poor quality homes as River Clyde Homes continues to transform local communities across Inverclyde with new and improved housing.
Tenant and chairman of River Clyde Homes, Roy Steel, said: "Inverclyde is changing for the better and thousands of tenants are sharing in this through our regeneration and investment programmes. In just six short months we have started improving housing for the better and this grant from the Scottish Government will allow us to continue delivering for tenants."
Chief Executive of River Clyde Homes, Karen Neary, added: "This investment is great news for the tenants of Inverclyde. It will help us deliver on key promises to tenants by providing significant improvements in housing quality, while making a lasting and meaningful impact on the long-term regeneration of our communities.
"We will continue to work closely with our partners in Inverclyde and the Scottish Government to ensure that our vision of good quality housing is delivered."
